Impact
what we have accomplished
The beauty of our project model is that a small investment creates a self-sustaining solution to the problem on food insecurity. Because we’re imparting knowlege, rather than just providing food, the impact ripples on for years, and even to surrounding communities.
The Garden Grows with the Community
As we have developed dozens of these projects in Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Niger, the Philippines, and Mexico, we’ve encountered a pattern of development.
Community Development
Year 1
Food for survival. In the first year, the garden will be used to provide the food needed to sustain those in the community, providing food security.
Year 2
For variety. In the second year, the garden is used to grow a wider variety of different foods, providing a more varied and enjoyable diet for those in the community
Year 3
Medicinal Plants. In the third year, we often see the addition of medicinal plants, which improve quality of life by reducing malaria, dysentery, etc.
Year 4
Extra food for income. Eventually, the garden begins to generate a surplus of food, which can be sold to generate income to further develop the community

Harvest Gardens During the Pandemic
The year 2020 was a very unique year across the globe. To every nation, it was a year with its own uniqueness in how the news about Covid 19 were received and dealt with altogether. Kenya, like all the other countries had her share of the uniqueness in the situation.
As it was common in many countries, there was loss of jobs, lockdowns and lots of concerns with food security among other issues that cropped up from the situation. Harvest Gardens was able to help in some key areas.
