How it Works

A Commitment to training

Equipping Trainers for Sustainable Farming

At Harvest Gardens, we are dedicated to addressing food insecurity by equipping trainers who teach organic farming techniques in communities where access to nutritious food is limited. Through intensive, hands-on training, we empower individuals to grow their own healthy food, restore local ecosystems, and improve overall well-being.

Our Training Process

We begin by identifying potential trainers from various regions and providing them with advanced organic farming training. Our initial program took place in Kenya, where trainers participated in a one-month intensive course alongside individuals from different continents. Harvest Gardens fully sponsored participants, including four Kenyans and several others from neighboring African countries.

Teaching Systainable Practices

Our Process

Once trained, these individuals return to their communities, where they lead groups in adopting organic farming techniques. Our training consists of three core components:

Donate

Organic Farming

We teach methods that avoid the use of chemicals and prioritize managing the natural habitat. We believe that every element of creation has a purpose, and we are entrusted to care for this beautiful, God-given world.

Healthy Diets

We emphasize the importance of growing and consuming natural, whole foods. Processed foods, often associated with modernization, have been shown to negatively impact health over time. By growing their own food, individuals can enjoy more nutritious meals, with green smoothies being a highly recommended option.

Medicinal Plants

We promote the cultivation of medicinal plants like aloe vera, moringa, lemongrass, and rosemary. These plants not only serve as preventive measures but also provide natural remedies for common ailments. We distribute manuals and books to groups, offering valuable knowledge about the benefits of these plants.

Hands On-Training

Our standard training program lasts five days, with the first day dedicated to theory and the remaining four focused on practical skills such as double digging, composting, and planting. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate of attendance. Groups typically range from 15 to 25 people, but schools have allowed us to train up to 60 students at a time.

For those seeking a more in-depth experience, we offer one-month comprehensive training sessions aimed at developing new trainers. Due to the associated costs, these are less frequent. One of our notable programs was conducted in the Philippines, where we trained 30 pastors who now teach organic farming across the country.

Resources for Success

To ensure training success, we provide essential tools and we cover the cost of transport, facilitators, and materials such as seeds, flip charts and felt pens.  The tool kit includes:

  • Hoes/Forked Hoes
  • Wheelbarrow
  • Rakes
  • Spades/Shovels
  • Tape Measures
  • Stings
  • Watering Cans
  • File (for sharpening tools)
  • Machetes

Since 2013, we have completed approximately 70 projects in Kenya, working with a diverse range of groups, including schools, women’s groups, and community organizations.

Impact & Outreach

Over the years, our training programs have directly benefited more than 1,520 individuals in Kenya alone, with an additional 240 students from local schools. While it’s difficult to measure the indirect impact, the knowledge shared through these groups continues to spread throughout their communities.

Many have experienced the health benefits of incorporating green smoothies and medicinal plants into their diets, with testimonies of healing from ailments such as ulcers, malaria, asthma, and bacterial infections.

Join Us in Spreading God’s Love

At Harvest Gardens, we believe in the sufficiency of nature and the power of God’s love to provide for His people. Our mission is to disciple communities to live healthier, more sustainable lives by teaching them to grow nutritious food and incorporate natural remedies into their everyday practices.
